What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)? Before we answer this question, we have to know what a platelet is. A platelet is a blood cell that plays a major role in clotting our blood in case of injury, and is loaded with granules that contain several growth factors that help in tissue regeneration, repair and healing. PRP is the combination of these activated platelets with a fibrin matrix that acts as an adhesive scaffolding for these platelets to attach to the receptors found on most tissues in the body, particularly fibroblasts, which produce collagen and elastin, needed for repair of damaged skin and other tissues such as bones, muscles and tendons.
